Article Selection
Find an article (no older than 1 year) on the Internet, which adheres to the following requirements. First, the article must discuss the importance of international trade to economic growth and development. Second, the article must involve a current event, which is normally not a problem if the article was published within the last year and is from a good source. Third, the author must use statistical information, data, or graphs to back his or her conclusions on the international trade issue.
Fifth, to ensure that students provide their own ANALYSIS, as the title to the assignment indicates, when you draft one or more paragraphs to respond to questions 1-4 below, you should be brief and answer questions 1-4 under Content of Your Paper in no more than 1/2 to 2/3 of a page (single-spaced). Summarize the article in this part of the paper in your own words. Question 5 below requires you to refer to the terms, methods, and ideas you have learned in the class and think about how they apply to your article. Provide a substantial opinion and critique the article. Do not rephrase what the author of the article states. Responding to question 5 should be at least 1/2 page (single-spaced).
Content of Your Paper:
Write a report that is at least one single spaced page or two double-spaced pages and include the following:
1. Provide a short summary of the issue(s) discussed in the article.
2. What is the author’s view on the issue?
3. What are the available data or statistics? What do they mean in relation to the authors opinion?
4. Do you agree/disagree with the author’s conclusions? Better papers will analyze the article and utilize what was learned in the course. The expected way in which students will make the paper longer and more thorough is to provide a substantial opinion and critique of the article.
