Example of another student : In my situation the schools intentionally decided to separate themselves from the faith, but in your situation it is being forced on your school with the threat of shutting it down. This is interesting to think about because within BAM we realize how these businesses are not being kicked out of countries because they are providing an economic benefit and helping the community they are in. However, in this situation you could say the same thing about the school; you are providing an education, thus an economic benefit for future generations, yet you are still restricted.
I will highlight that some of the best conversations I got to have with students in Cambodia were outside of the classroom, whether through sports, or recess, etc. The intentionality can still be there, maybe not within the curriculum, but within how you treat others (loving your neighbor), and discipling students from an academic standpoint but also a spiritual standpoint when they do ask those questions. One thing I took from our previous reading is that “when we are faced with challenges, we should choose to derive our ability from the Holy Spirit” (Shearer, 2015), and in this case you all may be faced with a tough situation but there isn’t anything that God cannot overcome to fulfill His will. There is one thing I know: “By rebelling against God, the fulfilment and purpose of our work is seriously eroded” (Theology of Work, 2021), but even though you are faced with a tough situation, Christ is still King and the Holy Spirit cannot be stopped of fulfilling God’s will and purpose for you and the other teachers there. Keep fighting the good fight!
