You painted a wonderful example of putting our faith in Christ through how we disciple others as Jesus was greatest example of discipleship. I believe that a huge problem that we see today is that the Church is not adequately representing how different callings and vocations can be honoring to the Lord in how they serve from a ministry standpoint. Disciples can be made in the Church and at a local business run by a Christian leader, there just needs to be intentionality behind the way that they lead and share Christ.
For business and discipleship to work “Business and ministry, in particular, need to be talked about more often as an integrated effort” (Kramer, 2014), as a lot of people today only see ministry in Church jobs or missionary work. Christ’s command to make disciples of all nations still operates under the notion that we are to serve in whatever capacity and calling He has called us to. It is said that those in need of guidance need “Christians with the gifts of knowledge, wisdom, discernment, prophecy, and leadership” (Shearer, 2015) because they are able to set a wonderful example of Christ from a transformational standpoint, and let their light shine before others to bring glory to God.
Do you see discipleship being a priority where you work now? If not a Christian organization, how do you disciple others within the scope of authority and work responsibilities? Do you see the discipleship process being more tough when there are day to day challenges? I always think back to the challenges that Jesus faced and how he was still sinless and faithful, always looking out for others before himself, and I try to use that as a driving force in my work ethic, discipleship, and inspiration to serve the Lord with all my heart and put his will before my own personal priorities.
