Using Chi-Squared Test

This assignment has two exercises. In the first, you will perform a goodness-of-fit test with some extra steps. In the second, you will just be doing a standard chi-squared test for independence. There is one Excel file provided below covering both questions that you can use. Click on each tab to review the questions:

Question 1

The duration, in hours, of the effect of the standard dose of a certain drug on a healthy adult female is thought to be exponentially distributed; in particular, the proportion of patients for whom effects wear off within hours is purported to be . Data was collected from patients 200 patients. (Note that effects wore off for all patients within 12 hours).
Using the Excel file, add an Expected number of patients column. Then fill out the column using the formula above. Round to the nearest tenth.
Perform the goodness-of-fit test to determine whether the observed durations are consistent or statistically different from the theorized exponential model ().

Question 2
In a study of 326 skin cancer patients, the patient’s age and type of skin cancer were recorded. Each patient had only one type of skin cancer. The findings are shown in the attached Excel file.
Using the Excel file, conduct a chi-squared test for independence on age vs. diagnosis (). Dont forget that you need to add the Total row and column before creating your expected value table.
Do you conclude that age and skin cancer diagnosis are likely dependent or independent? What does this mean in plain English?
