In an effort to manage some of the harmful and negative consequences of excessive use of these substances, various societies and cultures have adopted diverse approaches. You have learned how excessive use of substances can harm individuals and societies, and how this ripple effect can be challenging to address. The following discussion question will give you an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the connection between cultural trends and history in relation to drug use and abuse and how addiction can happen.
