What have you done to make your school or your community a better place? (maximum 350 words)

As one of the many common representatives of my highschool and community, I have always wanted to be someone more special; someone who truly puts in dedications to make either the school or the town a better place. With this in mind, I put in many thoughts as to what I can do to make it better, and I realize it can be anything. As a Korean-American and as an immigrant, I know that there are many challenges not only with language barriers but also with cultural clashes. I, who is familiar with both Korean and American language and culture, wanted to help out by volunteering as a teaching assistant in a local Korean school held in my high school during the weekend where students from all different ages come in to learn the language and cultures. I put in my dedication and passions to share all my experience and knowledge to these students so that they would not only become bilingual but also grow up familiarizing themselves in both cultures and possibly passing on what I have done for the future generations to come. I have recently caught up with some of my students in class that I constantly kept in contact with through social media and was astonished to find out that some of them actually became teaching assistants. I was proud of these students, and I became proud of myself to know that I have influenced them to help out the same way I did. As for other students, they were able to communicate in Korean and able to respect different cultures in their lives as well as they shared my encounters with other Korean-Americans and other immigrants that had struggled in adjusting to their new lives in America.
