Topic is Whether or not an allowance for makes a child responsible. (Pick your own title)For this course, you will use MLA or APA to document your Toulmin. MLA is the standard for ENG-112 @ TCC/VCCS, but you may APA if you know that you are going in to the sciences.
Your Toulmin paper will use a Works Cited page to credit your sources.
Your sources, when used within a paragraph/ sentence, will be be credited using in-text, parenthetical, citation.
Sources are listed alphabetically, they are not numbered, you do not special pictures, decorations, or other unique identifiers.
Sources will utilize a hanging indent.
Formatting citations for your sources may be done using an online citation tool such as Citation Machine @ PurdueOWL or others as you have them available.
**ALWAYS** Check the citation for correctness to the MLA/APA guide after the citation is generated. Capitalization, indents, etc., may need to be edited.
Generators do not always “grab” all of the information needed. Check the empty boxes before hitting “Create citation.”

Your Toulmin will have a standard Works Cited (MLA) or References (APA).
This page will not have annotations under each source.
When you are conducting research, you will use the annotation process to take notes and critique sources for their usefulness. The annotation process will result in your producing an annotated bibliography that is the same as a Works Cited or References page, BUT there will be an annotation under each citation that provides some information about the source that serves as your note taking/ and processing of the information.
Annotations are typically 100-150 words in length and do four things.
1) Identify the author/speaker
2) Identify the source type (web, journal article, video, newspaper, interview, etc.)
3) Summarize the source and note information that you see as particularly relevant. If there is a quote that you think might be useful for your paper, you may include it. This will save you from having to go back to the source and reread as you write your paper.
4) Compare the work to one other source on the topic/ note any strengths or weaknesses. *
When you are annotating your first source, you won’t have anything to compare to. Write the annotation minus the comparison first, and the comparison after you have written other annotations.
ALL citation and annotation is double spaced.
Sources use hanging indent.

Required paper source variety:
You need five to 10 sources for your paper.<--- Notice that I have spelled out numbers under 10.
Your sources should be a variety of content and include at least:
-one web source
-One video/ documentary source
-two database sources using Academic Search complete (Links to an external site.)/Full-text articles.
These sources should be academic in nature, not electronic popular sources. BUT you may have one of the two be a popular electronic source. (Ex. Newsweek, The Washington Post).
Ex; Journal articles.
*** Be sure to select "full text" when entering your search criteria.***
- You may include an interview as a source.
After you have established source variety, you may repeat sources in any order that you wish.
Note: Your journal articles DO NOT need to be "scholarly/ peer-reviewed," these types of publicatios may be more technical and difficult to read than you would prefer. Media types:
You may use YouTube clips for one source/ your video source. Pay attention to author information. This may be a YouTube user name, organization, etc.
