This is an exercise on recognizing and discussing historical parallels.
Identify two (2) events in our current news (since January 2021 up to today’s date) that are well-known and public information and make the following parallels to history:
What event took place in history that is a parallel to the event of our current time?
What are the specific similarities?
Be mindful that the similarities may be basic principles like humanity, child welfare, helping the poor or disenfranchised, or another widely-accepted and assumed principle, like freedom of religion or gender discrimination.
Who are the specific people involved and/or the affected populations involved?
What are the differences?
Do the differences between the historical event and the current event to which you are making a parallel make the underlying principals different?
Do you think that society’s interpretation and/or the media’s coverage and presentation of the historical event and current event differ?
Why or why not?
Why do you think that the media’s coverage of the issue is different?

Immigration of our current time versus immigration of the past and other populations of people.
Equal Rights for blacks and people of color versus equal rights of LGBT, handicap, and/or other disenfranchised groups.
The US government’s intervention in another country’s affairs that helps the country versus the US government’s interventions and assistance to other countries of similar circumstances in the past.
The distribution of the COVID vaccine compared/contrasted to The Tuskegee Experiment and those who receive a vaccine versus those who don’t. Please consider that
The media’s treatment of Woody Allen who is a known child molester based on raising his daughter and then marrying her versus the medai’s treatment of other celebrities who have done perhaps far less acts.
The sexual socio-political dynamics compared and contrasted between any two (2) celebrities.
The media’s coverage of Global Warming from 20 years ago versus the media’s coverage of Global Warming today (hint: the media used to say that the world has 80 years before we see and feel the impact, but BBC just reported last night that we are in the midst of it and it is dire from a LEAKED REPOcixRT FROM THE UNITED NATIONS)
