Chapter 2 discusses the relevance of diversity and disparities to healthcare programs. As managers working to plan and evaluate health services, health disparities and diversity must be considered.

1. Identify some of the basic global, cultural, inclusion/equity and/or ethical issues with in a healthcare setting with a diverse client population. (Program Outcome 8)
2. Discuss the ways in which the linguistic diversity of a target audience affects programs being planned at each level of the public health pyramid.
3. Think of a specific health program provided by a specific healthcare organization with which you are familiar. Complete either of the cultural competency self-assessments included in chapter 2 (exhibits 2-1 or 2-2). What surprised you about the self-assessment? What recommendations would you make based on the results of the self-assessment.?
4. As a healthcare manager what are some ways you could enhance cultural competency within your staff/yourself?
5. What is a coalition? Find a health program in your community: are they supported by a coalition?
