DNP Essay
Applicants are expected to have prerequisite knowledge and skills to handle complex concepts and
communicate clearly about them with stakeholders and professionals from multiple disciplines. To help
the DNP admissions committee assess your potential for success in a doctoral program, please answer one
of the questions listed below. This scholarly essay should be limited to 750 words, excluding references,
and should be written according to the 6th edition of the Publication Manual of the American
Psychological Association. References are not included in the 750 word limit but must be submitted with
the DNP Essay.
1. Identify and describe an actual or emerging healthcare issue that affects the health of a
population. What approach would you use to assess healthcare needs and how would you
implement change at the organizational level to improve healthcare outcomes in this population?
Specify resources and best evidence you would use to address this issue as well as stakeholders
with whom you would collaborate.
2. Describe your vision on how DNP prepared nurses can serve as leaders who will influence
healthcare policies, relevant to a specific population, at the state or national level.
