The Attorney General of the U.S. has convened an advisory committee of governors, mayors, police chiefs, citizens and researchers to identify the most important issues and problems related to policing in the U.S., and to make recommendations on how to address them. YOU have been hired as an expert consultant to write a paper for the committee. You have been asked to identify an important social problem or issue related to policing in the U.S., research the problem in-depth, and to make recommendations for reforms that you believe can help solve the problem or improve the issue. Recommended Structure I recommend structuring your paper in the following sections:
INTRO: Introduce the reader to your issue/problem. This section should convince the reader that your issue is important and that some type change or reform is needed.
CONTEXT/BACKGROUND: This section should provide an in-depth analysis of your issue/problem. Provide the necessary background info to describe your problem and introduce any concepts that are necessary for the reader to understand. Also provide a discussion of the causes and consequences of your problem/issue. You must also cite your sources appropriately when making factual statements.
RECOMMENDED REFORM: Make specific recommendations on how to address the issue. Evaluate and cite research on your proposed reforms (i.e. evidence of effectiveness, potential negative consequences etc.)
DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION: Summarize the main points of your paper. Discuss the future of the problem/issue, implications, challenges, prospects, etc.
REFERENCES: Provide a reference page for all works cited in the text. Choose a topic you are interested in Be as specific as possible in your writing. Avoid vague statements, overgeneralizations, and unsupported factual claims.
