One of my strengths is my ability to connect with students. I’m able to develop a close relationship with each of my students. Understanding their styles, family situations and their social interactions allows me to fully understand where my students are coming from. In doing this, I can understand how to reach them educationally. Each student has a different learning style and with this information, I’m able to build trust and this opens the door so I can tap into that learning style that is needed to make them successful.

Also, I have a very strong understanding of the nursing process in all areas of nursing, as I have 30 years of experience in every department, which allows me to offer experience and examples to make teaching students about the nursing process exciting and real. Students are eager to learn about real-life situations to spark interest in areas they are interested in. Expertise in nursing leadership, emergency/trauma, resuscitation, quality and safety, and education/simulation. Previous education experience in-hospital and academia. I have a positive attitude, communicate well with others, am approachable, and am easy to work with. I am organized in all aspects of my teaching. I enjoy students and love to see growth in others.

As I reflect on this year, I learn about my instructional techniques, my classroom environment, and the work habits of my students. These aspects of the classroom can be difficult to evaluate because as a teacher, I am always focused on what I’m doing. During my observations, I gained a wealth of knowledge about areas I could improve on. I see where I need to continue to strive to use a variety of techniques in every lesson that I teach. I am often so rushed when I sit down to plan my lessons, and I introduce a lesson using only one instructional technique. I realize that providing multiple instructional techniques is truly beneficial for the students’ learning and I plan to implement this more often

I also work hard on team-building activities that I have integrated into my lessons. I often forget about these activities mid-year, but I realize that they are important in developing a positive classroom atmosphere throughout the years. I realize that I should continue these team building activities to maintain a positive classroom atmosphere throughout the year and I want to work on that this upcoming year
