The author discusses the idea of nation and explains how nations were imagined and established by the leaders in the five focused countries of Asia: Japan, China, South Korea, Indonesia, and India and how in the 21st century the leaders/regimes have re-imagined or are re-imagining the nation. Focusing on China and South Korea OR Indonesia and India, how the nation was imagined in the early postcolonial period by Mao Zedong and Park Chung-hee OR Sukarno and Nehru and how the re-imagining of nation by the leaders in these countries in the last two decades or so has challenged the vision and ideas of the nations founders (Mao Zedong, Park Chung-hee, Sukarno, and Nehru).
