Instructions
Your assignment is to write a descriptive paper on the fish you were assigned. The paper should be 4 – 5 pages and include the following information as separate headings. Each topic is worth a total of 5 points. I am aware that some species have more published information than others.
Description of the fish;
Physiological and morphological characteristics used to identify your fish
Distribution
Description of the current distribution of your species. Include historic distribution, if that information is available. Include a map of current distribution
Habitat
Describe its habitat
Foods/Feeding
Describe the food and feeding habits of your fish.
Reproduction
Describe their spawning habits; including timing, any color changes, any protection of eggs and fry provided and preferred spawning conditions.
Activities/Behavior
Include behavioral characteristics; such as schooling, migration, etc. Include unusual behaviors, if any.
Populations
Over crowded, endangered, cyclical major fluxes if there were/are any.
Known threats (if any) Examples may include that the species is frequently overharvested, has any specific habitat requirements making habitat loss an issue, species interbreeds thus eliminating pure strains, population reductions from introduced predators, etc.
Management
Actions taken by conservations agencies such as harvest regulations, captured for artificial propagation, re-stocking actions, subjected to periodic population control actions, or maintained by natural reproduction (Not all species are subject to such actions, therefore this information may not be available.) Include if there is economic significance or importance.
