Discussion Prompts:
Choose two artworks from the textbook, from any chapter except Chapter 5. One will be an artwork that you truly like, and the other artwork is one you truly do not like.
Take screenshots of both. Be sure we can see the title, artist, date, and medium in the screenshots.
Learn about each artwork, by both reading the relevant text in our book, as well as researching them on internet websites.
In a minimum of two typewritten paragraphs, using complete sentences, discuss the following points:
Paragraph 1:
1. Introduce the work you like by title, artist, date, and medium.
2. Why did you choose this artwork? What did you like most about it? What does your preference reflect about you and your values?
3. Share some of your research with us. Include a link to the source(s), besides the textbook, you used for your research. What did you find out about this artwork that you did not know before? Share one or two ‘fun facts” about it. Did that information change your opinion about it? Why or why not?
4. Which critical theory seems to best “fit” how you approached this artwork?
Paragraph 2:
1. Introduce the work you don’t like by title, artist, date, and medium.
2. Why did you choose this artwork? What did you dislike about it (list as many reasons you like!)? What do those dislikes reflect about you and your values?
3. Share some of your research with us. Include a link to the source(s), besides the textbook, you used for your research. What did you find out about this artwork that you did not know before? Share a couple “fun facts” about it. Did that information affect your original negative opinion about it? Why or why not?
4. Which critical theory seems to best “fit” how you approached this artwork?
Integrate relevant art terms and concepts in your writing. This demonstrates your knowledge and ability to apply this week’s curriculum.
Double-check your writing. It is important to communicate effectively, so always check spelling, grammar, etc. Avoid phrases, bullet points and lists.
Apparent time/effort investment is considered during evaluation. Your written content should not appear rushed, incomplete, or vague.
