Getting trained and immersed in ethics and governance scholarly literature can be challenging, that students of this important subject need to understand, that to become future ethical business leaders and contributors. The purpose of this assignment is to build up your ability to bridge normative theories and scholarly readings.

From each of these readings, identify whether each uses Deontology, Teleology or Virtue ethics, or a combination to justify their approach. While it may seem like a challenging reading task, please remember, the use of these two readings actually makes your assignment easier.

Assignment 1 Readings ——————————————————–

1 Gupta, R 2019, ‘Ethics and ethical dilemmasa practical approach’, Vinimaya, Vol. 40, No. 1, pp. 519.
2 Hiekkataipale, M and Lms, AM 2017, ‘(A)moral agents in organisations? The significance of
ethical organisational culture for middle managers exercise of moral agency in ethical
problems’, Journal of Business Ethics, Vol. 155, No. 1, pp. 147161

To fulfil this assignment, you are to develop a review of the two readings, above, and make an argument as to why each paper is influenced by a particular ethics theory.

We are not looking for a right/wrong answer, but the quality of your analysis and your ability to be incisive, insightful and engaging with your arguments. Your essay is to be written in prose and students who write in bullet points will lose marks. You must support your statements with appropriate references to the given readings.

To write well, you need to choose powerful definitions of ethics theories and show your ability to draw upon your definitions to identify why you have made a determination that the readings show semblances of the normative and non-normative features we discuss.

You need to make clear arguments when presenting your case and find opportunities to reinforce to the reader that you can engage with arguments around ethics. Students lose marks because they make statements, but require readers to guess whether a student actually understands. Therefore, proof-read your essay to identify opportunities to convince the reader of your understanding. This process of evidencing and convincing, is best supported by appropriate use of in-text citation.

Finding Additional Readings – assisting you to define ethics theories

This assignment offers you the opportunity to find additional scholarly literature that would help you to explain the different definitions of ethics theories, such as Kantian, Deontology, Teleology etc. Students may find it helpful to find a key reading when defining key theories, such as Kantian, Deontology. When you research additional readings, it is important for you to retain these for Assignment 2.
