For example, examine cultural barriers that might undercut the changes (e.g., long-term beliefs, values, and assumptions). Focus on cultural strengths (best practices), weaknesses (gaps and issues), threats (resistance and undercutting), and opportunities (items that changes will improve). Note the following:
i. Strengths: identify where the culture is at its best. Identify areas of which people are proud. Remember that strengths can also include obstacles via very strong cultural items that can still undercut the best-planned change.
ii. Weaknesses: identify key gaps or lack of unity. Identify areas that need fixing.
iii. Opportunities: identify what is ripe, and why, for a change or new approach. Assess areas of culture and stakeholder engagement.
iv. Threats: people typically resist change identify threats from internal or external groups that may tend to block even the best laid plans. Are there other internal or external threats?
d. Organization Cultural Change Readiness: assess the organizations cultural readiness for change. What must you address as an absolute priority? What are the optimal approaches? What steps can, or will, you take based upon your model selection(s) to lead the organizational culture effectively through the change? A fact to consider is that it takes a long time to change a culture. How does your change initiative stack up against that fact? Are you doing too little, too much, or just the right number of steps in the right way for success?
e. Evaluation Overall Cultural Assessment Outcomes: summarize the assessment results on cultural challenges, implications, and readiness addressed before, during, and after change implementation. You are encouraged to incorporate a diagram or table that reflects the key organizational cultural factors essential to the success of your personal change management plan.
