A critical discussion of why the method(s) chosen to collect the data/use existing data sets/sources are appropriate,
A discussion of how data will be analysed and how this may inform the research findings,
An awareness of the ethical issues related to this design and your data and/or research participants,
How you communicate your ideas (structure, use of English, referencing using the Harvard system).

Please note for any proposal we are not expecting you to have undertaken a complete literature review as part of your proposal development, but some literature should be discussed and potential indicative sources of literature (authors and/or sources) can be included.

Hello, the dissertation proposal that is to be written should be based on the ideas of ethnic minorities and the UK planning system. This could either be an insight into inner-city segregation in the UK and the policies regarding this or urban planning strategies in ethnic minority communities in the UK

Either of these topics can be used please choose the one that you believe will be more suitable. I will provide some academic papers and literature surrounding this area to aid you but please do add anymore references in regards to the subject you find whilst writing the proposal

e.g key references you will draw on

Research questions/ hypothesis
What are you researching?
Clearly define the research question that you are attempting to
answer
Do you have a hypothesis that are you testing?

Aims and Objectives
Purpose, overarching aim
Where are you trying to get with this?
Objectives
e.g include a list of things you have to do in order to achieve the aims
Methodology
How are you going to do the research ?
Whats the overall strategy? (e.g the methodology)
e.g the overall strategy for carrying out the research
What methods will you use?
Justify the methods chosen
e.g reference the literature on research methods

Sample
How are you going to select the people to talk to?
Dont just refer to an approach but explain how you are going to do
this
And why you have chosen the sample

Data collection
Discuss what data will be collected and how
Explain the nature of the data that will be collected
e.g describe the data examined in a desk based study such as which
documents you may analyse
Relate the data collection to your questions (e.g you are answering
how you are answering your research questions)

Data analysis
What data analysis approach will you take?
e.g thematic or discourse?

How will this produce the data that you need to answer your
research questions?

Possible problems
Be reflective (often recruitment is a challenge)
Discuss how you are going to address these challenges
