Dont just tell your reader what happens; be sure to consider how and why it happens, too. Also, if you choose to write a comparative essay, you must actively compare and contrast the texts youre examining, rather than merely discussing a question as it relates to each text. Finally, you should support your thesis with close readings of the text or texts you’re considering. This paper gives you an opportunity to pursue one of these issues further, using close reading to support your argument.

My paper idea:
I have chosen to write an analytical essay exploring the representation of women specifically in Washington Irving’s “Rip Van Winkle” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”. My thesis should take the position that women are represented negatively and in a misogynistic way by Irving in these stories . The body paragraphs should use evidence from ONLY those two texts to support the thesis.
