Write an analysis on how rhetoric has shaped current attitudes, beliefs and policies about coronavirus.

Your reflection paper must be 3 pages double spaced (approximately 750 words) in size 11 or 12 font with 1 inch margins.

TOPIC – The role of rhetoric in our understanding of coronavirus

Based on the lecture on the rhetoric of science distilling Chapter 9, and all the course content so far about the importance of rhetoric in shaping social attitudes, write an analysis on how rhetoric has shaped current attitudes, beliefs and policies about coronavirus. You may use a book, magazine or journal article, documentary, feature film, political speech — any example of people addressing climate change.

Some questions to help frame your analysis: does the rhetoric of science as Herrick defines it in the Enlightenment and 19th century manifest itself in the responses to COVID from Center for Disease Control researchers, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and other scientists? Have their rhetorical approaches changed with the times? Do politicians split rhetoric and science?

I am uninterested in your views on coronavirus or the political response. Analyze the rhetoric.

The arguments presented should relate to the material covered in class, and must cite the book, lecture or concepts from the lecture on at least five separate ideas. Use APA style, including headings to separate your main concepts in the paper.

Your paper must include:

– An introductory paragraph (no heading necessary)

– A description of your understanding of the rhetoric of coronavirus, including a thesis sentence or two summarizing the main point of your paper.

– Approximately three concepts from the course applied to your topic, developed in articulate paragraphs divided by headings as appropriate.

– A concluding paragraph summarizing your key points and implications of your analysis (what you think it means for rhetoric, for climate change, for society, etc).

You may use screenshots of tweets or YouTube clips in your analysis. Be as creative as you can!

Proofread carefully. This is your final big writing assignment, and I’ll grade the content and quality of the prose. Use Spellcheck and grammar check. Do not refer to people by first name. Paraphrase and cite your sources. If you copy text verbatim, use quotation marks and cite source including page number.

Include a list of references or works cited IN A CONSISTENT FORMAT.
