Preparation for the Signature Assignment
This week, you will outline your Signature Assignment, due in week 12. An outline is an excellent tool to help you check whether you are on the right track in preparing to write the Signature Assignment. In the final assignment, you will propose two possible (hypothetical) studies, one that uses a qualitative research design and one that uses a quantitative research design. The studies can focus on the same topic or two completely different topics. You are not being judged on the topics you choose; the skill is in suggesting the appropriate design for that topic.
In the past, you have found that the more detailed the outline, the more you can help suggest issues you may want to focus on in more detail. If there are elements you are unsure about, ask these questions of your professor so you can produce the best proposal possible. Sometimes professors cannot answer certain questions because they would constitute pre-marking of the work, but if an answer can be provided, rest assured it will be.
As you will note from the point allocation for the task, this is a preparation week for the final assignment. Therefore, do not feel pressured to complete a perfect outline representing exactly what will be included in your final assignment; use this task as an opportunity to think about what you might include in the Signature Assignment, and then briefly present your ideas.
Be sure to review this week’s resources carefully. You are expected to apply the information from these resources when you prepare your assignments.
Week 11 – Assignment: Prepare an Outline for the Signature Assignment
Your task this week is to complete an outline of your Signature Assignment. The outline should contain the following for two hypothetical studies, one that will use a qualitative method and one that will use a quantitative method.
For the quantitative study, be sure to address the following in your outline:
Include a brief explanation of the hypothetical study.
Identify the research question you plan to answer.
Identify the independent and dependent variables.
Explain the analysis you plan to use to assess the findings from the study.
For the qualitative study, be sure to address the following in your outline:
Include a brief explanation of the hypothetical study.
Identify the research question you plan to answer.
Identify the type of qualitative technique you plan to use.
Conclude with any questions you want your professor to answer. (Please do not send paragraphs asking is this ok?). These questions are optional, so if you do not have any questions, that is fine. Your grade will not reflect whether you had any clarifying questions.
Length: 1-2 pages, not including title and reference pages
Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing (where appropriate) and current APA standards.
