The purpose of this task is to facilitate the student’s understanding of their role in the
initial evaluation process. After contracting with the client and as part of that process, the
Students must answer the following questions:
What is the function of the initial evaluation?
What role does the social worker play during this evaluation?
How do the following factors impact the initial assessment?
-the practice environment where the initial assessment takes place.
-the person who is the client (e.g., is it an individual or is it a family? Is it a child,
adolescent, adult, or elderly? Is it court ordered or voluntarily? AND
aspects of identity, such as race, culture, gender, sexuality, religion, or
disabilities?)
-Goals in interaction with the social worker.
What methods or skills will the student use to complete the initial assessment?
Be sure to include the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of the assessment
initial.
In what ways does the initial assessment influence the steps in the aid process?
Materials, notes, texts, and other books can be used for reference for this portion of the assignment.
