1. Title: Something clear and concise, which gives an immediate clue about your thesis or argument
2. Thesis statement or research question related to the complex problem you want to study: What do you propose to do? What is your position? What will you show? Can you sketch your argument or anticipated line of reasoning? You can also include commentary on what you wont be addressing if that helps to clarify your goal. Choose one of the options below to frame your paper or project and state your intention in your prospectus.

I will clarify a particular idea/concept/phenomenon that is important but typically not well-understood and propose how better to inform people about this subject.
I will discuss a complex problem that has arisen in contemporary society but which has not been given adequate attention and show why this issue is worthy of more aggressive attention by the public, policy-makers, and/or educators.
3. The rationale or purpose: why is the project worth doing? You might anticipate objections you will need to address or problems you will confront. You will need to include at least 2 of your disciplines or focus areas. You can also briefly discuss what attempts have been made to address your complex problem.
4. Resources: what resources/methods are important? Be sure to include primary sources as well as secondary sources when appropriate. Focus on scholarly work.
5. Proposed organization: include section titles with a brief narrative explaining what you intend to do in each section. This is a valuable section of the prospectus so spend some time developing it now. It will save time later and guide your research more effectively!
6. A brief bibliography of scholarly work that follows accepted norms for format using MLA, APA, or Chicago style. Your final project will likely include many more sources than you list in your prospectus, but for the purposes of this document, you should include at least 5 scholarly sources.
