Why does the article describe the problems or benefits of immigration in the way that it does? What values (maybe what American values in particular) does the author feel are upheld or challenged by immigrants themselves? By immigration policy?
What does the article assume about the values and character of immigrants themselves? Upon what bases does s/he make these assumptions?
Does the author state or imply a hierarchy in terms of the desirability of different groups immigrating to the United States? If so, what values does the hierarchy seem to be based upon?
What does the article say or imply about the United States governments position on immigration? What seems to be the authors ideal conception of the United States as a nation?
What behaviors does the article state or imply are ideal for citizens of the United States? Who seems to be the authors ideal citizen?
*Note: the above questions are ideas to get you startedeach is complex and could be the basis for an entire paper. Do not plan on answering more than 1-2 of the questions in the paper itself, and do not organize your paper as a list of answers to these questions.
