Explore the Field

Using the internet (and other sources, as available), consider topics that would be of interest to biological anthropologists. These topics include, but are not limited to genetics, the mechanisms of evolution, primate anatomy and behavior, formal classification of primates, hominin anatomy and behavior, forensic anthropology and pathology, field research techniques and methods in paleoanthropology, modern human biological variation, disease and epidemiology (including paleoepidemiology), the history of biological anthropology, and many more.

Any topic of interest to biological anthropologists is acceptable.

Select a topic and confirm with instructor
After choosing your topic, contact your instructor to confirm that it would be an appropriate topic for a paper. (Your topic should be neither “too little information” nor “too ambitious for a short paper”).

Research
Select three to five articles that address your chosen topic, and summarize their main points. Add a conclusion and discussion paragraph at the end, describing areas for possible expansion of research into the topic.
