Personal Insight Question

Please describe how you have prepared for your intended major, including your readiness to succeed in your upper-division courses once you enroll at the university. (250-350 words)

My draft:
Due to the effects of the pandemic, makes my study process harder. However, it also helps me increase my self-efficacy and my ability to be alone, which has led to me spending more time finding ways to study and find my own pace.

I discovered my interest in economics at the end of my senior year of high school. I remembered one day I came up with this question, Why do some restaurants always issue coupons instead of offering discounts on all items?. At this point, I found economics being an interesting major to study. It is the major about choices and understanding of the world. It offers me a better understanding of the world and gives me a better ability to make choices within constraints, not just in a way of financing.

During my study process, I found that economics has a complex system of concepts. At the same time, college studies are particularly independent and require a particularly high level of self-learning ability. Ive always been a poor self-study student, but now I know its due to my inability to summarize and generalize the main points from the textbook and lectures. I have always relied on doing more practice quizzes or problems to make up for my deficiencies, but sooner I found it doesnt work in college since there were limited practice quizzes for you to do. I notice my problem is whenever I want to make a change or improve my current situation, I am always more inclined to do addition rather than to streamline the current subject Im working on. Therefore, I made a study program for myself.

First of all, I have to learn to understand. On top of that, I can memorize the concepts based on my understanding. In other words, to summarize the key points in my own words. As a result, I have improved my ability to process information and think more independently. I also realized all the knowledge I learned needs to be combined with real-life practice. The basics learned in class are tested in the exams with real-life examples. Thus, I learned how to analyze real cases with the knowledge I gained from the class.

Nothing is more important than the development of more skills to succeed during my first two years journey in college. There is no denying that I have become a better individual since I know where to go and what to go after. My determination enables me to satisfy my academic curiosity and equip myself with the best abilities to enhance my capabilities to prepare for my future college life. Moreover, what Ive gained along the way is a mature mind, a strong and stable sense of emotion, and the ability to execute with perseverance. I have grown, conquered myself, and gained confidence from varieties of challenges. Above all, I discovered the determination I have to grow in the face of adversity and turn the tide against the wind must be something more precious than an acceptance letter. And certainly, I have to work harder, be more proactive, and keep expanding outside my comfort zone. I will be carrying delight and passion along the way, and will not be driven by fear.
