You will research a cultural dance of your background or another dance you’re interested in( not any of the dances we’ve already studied) and write a 600-word 2-page or more up to 3 pages double-spaced essay paper on the dance you researched. References will be in MLA Format.
A cultural dance is a dance that started in a particular culture and they primarily still do the dance. Usually, the dance can be recreational- done for fun, more than just professionals do it and it is usually done by that particular culture. Examples are
Folklorico would be a cultural dance. Irish step dance would be a cultural dance. The Lion Dance from China would be a cultural dance.
(But please don’t do Lion Dance because it is used as an example. See below.) Dances from Africa that only people who live on that continent do or dances done only by people who live in Scotland would be cultural dances.
What is not a cultural dance can be debated of course. For purposes of this assignment, although there are professionals and those who do not get paid to do the dances, Contemporary modern dance would not be a cultural dance nor ballet or at this point, jazz dance, people of different backgrounds do it. i,e. Everybody does it i,e, it is not confined to a particular culture,
Examples are dancers in Japan perform ballet and jazz dance but mostly it is those of Japanese descent or who have a strong interest in Japanese dance that will do the dances that originate from Japan. Similarly with folklorico. Most people who are not Latinx will not perform folklorico unless they are sincerely interested in it and or from that culture. Thus you will not say find this dance being done by people who live in New Zealand unless they are of Latin descent. So hopefully you get the point. A dance of a particular culture, done in that culture that is not widely done by everyone else.
After you decide on your dance and find your references, you will next find 2 different videos of the dance you research, and attach the video links and describe in detail the movement in the 2 videos you attach (10 or more sentences per video) using all categories in Body Action Space Time Energy
