The Assignment: Write an essay in which you analyze the use of the various elements of poetry in the development of a theme in a poem.

The essay should describe how the author used some of the elements of the poetry discussed in this course (form, imagery, irony, figurative language, rhyme, symbol, etc.), to build the theme of their poem. Your discussion of each element should point clearly back to the poems theme. A basic outline for this essay would look like this:

a. How the symbolism helped build the theme of the story
III. Language Patterns
a. How language patterns helped build the theme of the story
IV. Form
a. How the form of the poem or rhyme patterns helped build the theme of the story
V. Conclusion

Note: The subtopics (i.e., Roman numerals II, III, and IV are examples. Please choose the ones that best fit the chosen poem for this essay.)
