Write an approximately three page essay with three sources on in Sonnys Blues. Baldwin wrote this story in 1957, around the time of the Harlem Renaissance when problems of racial justice in America still existed prior to the Civil Rights Movement. Post Civil War American was supposedly just and citizens were separate but equal but segregation still existed as divisions in society, i.e. urban versus rural, public versus private, and were in full effect. Baldwin uses music to show the brothers battle for self-expression and a voice through auditory scenes and symbols.
