Write a paper on why interested in this Family medicine PGY2 position: What fascinates me the most about family medicine is that it touches on every area of specialization and presents a diverse patient population across all ages. I am also taken by its propensity towards teamwork, which encourages relationship building with colleagues and patients. Developing long-term relationships with patients and integrating myself into their lives is what I want to do. Not only does this make it easier for them to participate in their own care, but I get the satisfaction of knowing I could console them in their time of anguish. Patients presenting with complex comorbidities need more than just a diagnosis and treatment. They need a source of support in times of illness and a familiar face to lead them through.
The reason for leaving the current residency program: A summary, I Am currently a resident at Ascension Genesys Hospital in grand black Michigan. I am looking to transfer away from the program because I didnt complete the step 3 exam by the cut off date of March 2022. I did take the exam but was off by 3 point and I am already working on retaking it. However, at my current program, since they have an institutional policy that the exam must be passed by a certain date and I didnt, I must transfer out.
Family and health reasons were the main factors that contributed to my not passing the exam when I attempted it. Covid took a toll on my family members, and this greatly affected my performance during the exam.
To get a better score, I have sought counseling help to help deal with the pain I was going through. I have also got a tutor helping me with step 3 and I am very positive I will be passing the exam during my next attempt which will be in June.
Overall, this experience has taught me the importance of preparation and resilience. These are skills that will help me become an adept physician.
