Client #1 wants a computer to play the latest state of the art games. Their primary concern is compatibility with latest games, graphic output, and performance when playing the games.

Client #2 is a free-lance developer for network applications based on open source languages. Their primary concern is reliability, cost of software, compatibility with open source languages, and satisfactory performance.

2. The Traveler and the Designer: Write a multi-paragraph essay analyzing the needs of the following two clients. Client #1 often travels with a computer for work. Their primary concern is battery life, software to demonstrate company products to customers, using standardized applications to share documents with customers, and ability to synchronize communication with a smartphone.

Client #2 wants a computer to support his part-time CADD business. Their primary concern is software compatibility, graphics processing power, output display devices, and storage for associated files.

3. System Software: While hardware includes all the physical components of the computer, software encompasses the instructions that execute on the hardware. Write a multi-paragraph essay that defines and details the system software that allows a user to multi-task, save and access files, and interact with the computer in an intuitive way.

4. Application Software: While hardware includes all the physical components of the computer, software encompasses the instructions that execute on the hardware. Write a multi-paragraph essay that defines and details the application software that allows a user to perform specialized tasks such as writing a letter, sending non-time-sensitive communications to remote family members, interacting with friends through video, editing graphics, and creating videos. For each identified task, name an application that performs that task.

5. Moving the Cursor: When a user moves a mouse, hardware, system software, and application software interact to make moving the cursor across a GUI background displayed on a monitor appear to be a simple action. Write an essay that analyzes and describes the user activity, hardware, system software, and application software for this interaction in terms of the input, processing, and output that happens when a user moves the cursor inside an application. Don’t forget to include the actions of the kernel.
