Assignments
1. Resume All students are required to complete a Rider resume in the required format. This resume must be submitted to and approved in Handshake, job management system AND CANVAS. Required format can be found in the Career Guide. Resume will be graded on content, format, spelling and grammar. File should be uploaded as a PDF and the file name should be FIRST NAME_LAST NAME_RESUME for both Handshake and CANVAS submission. Submission must be to BOTH locations in order to be considered for credit.
2. Cover Letter Students will write a cover letter outlining the skills and qualifications they possess for a JD posted on CANVAS. The cover letter will be graded on content, format, spelling, and grammar. The file should be uploaded as a PDF and the file name should be FIRST NAME_LAST NAME_COVER LETTER.
3. LinkedIn Students will be required to create a LinkedIn profile that outlines their experiences and skillsets. Students will be required to build or expand their professional network, follow companies of interest, and identify prospective contacts that may be able to assist with their career exploration. Submission to CANVAS should be a link to the LinkedIn profile.
4. Career Fair Students will be required to attend one University career fair during the semester. University career fairs can be found on Handshake under events. CANVAS submission is a reflection paper (2 pages double-spaced) discussing the career fair the student attended and including information regarding two companies that the individual met with. Students should include name of contact that they spoke to at each company as well.
5. Focus2 Assignment Complete all five self-assessments and submit results via CANVAS. The assessments to be completed are: work interest, values, personality, skills, & leisure. Write a 2-page paper reflecting on your own results and how that has changed any career views that you had or if they support your future career choices. CANVAS submission includes: 1) screenshot of results for all five assessments & 2) reflection paper that is 2 pages.
6. Backpack to Briefcase Assignment Read the assigned readings and write a 2-page reflection paper on what you learned and how you plan on incorporating this information as you go forward in starting your professional career.
7. STAR Method Assignment Students will submit STAR worksheets found in CANVAS.
8. Diversity & Inclusion what it means to you and how the university incorporates D&I into its culture Students will write a paper on what diversity & inclusion is, what it means to them, how Rider incorporates it into the educational culture both in extracurriculars and in the classroom and how D&I plays a role in whatever career path you choose to pursue.
9. ECE Students will submit a document outlining all experiential learning they have participated in while a student at the university.
