Topic: Exploring the types of collaborations of jazz and hip-hop
There are two main types of sampling when it comes to jazz being used in hip-hop.
Type 1) There’s the traditional: find a Bob Jones/ Herbie Hancock song, create a loop, add a break beat, and rap over it.
Type 2) And the newer version where hip-hop artists and jazz musicians are collaborating and making music together in a studio. Sometimes they still sample, but there’s more emphasis on collaboration between each genres artists. Like Kendrick Lamar and Kamasi Washington, or, Lupe Fiasco and Robert Glasper
