Why is doping among athletes wrong, and why is cognitive enhancement among students permissible?

Many people have two seemingly conflicting opinions about enhancement. One the one hand, doping
in sports (like cycling) is wrong because athletes who dope accrue an unfair advantage by doing so. In
short, doping is unfair; it is cheating. On the other, it is OK for students to take cognitive enhancement
drugs, like Adderall, for non-therapeutic purposes. Whatever else might be wrong with it, taking these
drugs as enhancers (e.g., to do better in school) is not unfair.
What is the relevant difference? Why is doping among athletes wrong,
and why is cognitive enhancement among students permissible? Id like you to read Heather Dykes short piece on doping
in sports, and write an essay that explains what the morally relevant difference is (if any) between
doping in sports and the use of Adderall by students as an enhancement. Specifically, Id like you to
write an essay that explains why doping is wrong (if it is), and then explains what it means to use
Adderall as an enhancement (e.g. a non-therepuetic use), and why it might seem OK to do so. Finally,
explain what the relevant difference is between the two, and what implications this difference (or lack
of difference) has for the permissibility of cognitive enhancement.
