Please use chapter 5 and 6 to answer the following:
1. In your opinion, what does it mean to use/apply theory in “everyday”life. What may be the value of using theory to understand “everyday” life.
2. Everyone has a fundamental knowledge about nursing as a discipline/profession, so why do you think the Baccalaureate program’s goals (mandated by accreditaion standards) wants to have students learn about (and apply) nursing theories in relation to their practice?
3. Please share one example of a phenomena that you have seen in the practice setting that stimulates your nursing perspective.
example by the professor: I will give you some examples to help you get started…….
1. My husband is an engineer – during COVID he wanted to get 2 bee hives in our backyard to help increase pollinators in environment. I couldn’t for the longest time understand why he found it so interesting and engaging (really – he spends a LOT of time on those hives)……recently I have begun to think – that it was his way of “helping the world” in an uncertain time – bees live a very organized structure “life” that I think he found soothing to be a part of…..that helps me when I think about how much $ he has sunk into this effort (you have no idea how much equipment bees need – I certainly didn’t) – in theoretical world – Systems theory! Engineers thrive and live in an ordered world…….
2. This is harder for me to give an example that won’t impinge on your efforts……..
3. I will give example from nursing education practice: For traditional high school graduates that start as freshman in pre-licensure BSN program – the phenomena I have seen is how involved parents are now. I was reading an editorial right before the semester started and it posed the opinion that there are no longer “helicopter parents” who hover in background……..but “snowplow parents” who will try and move anything out of the way of their child’s success……..
4. Remember you are a nurse with an associate degree persuing your BSN in nursing.
