What would be the components of such training & development program?

Overall Information: As your final project for the term you will complete a group
project in collaboration with your classmates. The project is due the very last
week of class. The components of the project will be included in ONE
comprehensive PowerPoint presentation for the group. Only one group member
will submit the PowerPoint file for grading, on the class Discussions link. However,
each student in the class is expected to reply to all other groups’ presentations
posted online. Further, each student in the class is expected to submit a
confidential peer evaluation of the other members of the group.
Project components: Your team runs the Human Resource office of a firm that is
in charge of staffing a subsidiary recently opened in another country (non-U.S.
country, the country selected is up to the team’s choosing). In addition to finding
ideal expatriate candidates for the position, the team is responsible for designing
a training and development program. These questions should be used to aid your
team in learning about the culture & business climate of the country. Items to
include in your team’s presentation:
1. What would be the components of such training & development program?
2. How would you include the employee’s spouse and family?
3. Conduct research on the country- what would potential expatriates need to
know about the country? (This list is just a sample. Hofstede’s Dimensions, or
other cultural dimensions, would be highly useful if that information is available
for the country selected.)
a. Language
b. Country Culture & Business Culture
c. Religion
d. History
e. Dress codes- for business, leisure, and in public locations
f. Weather conditions (seasons, natural threats, etc.)
g. Standard laws and regulations/legal system
h. Ethical norms (ex: is bribery in business standard or abhorred)
i. Currency and exchange rates (between the country & U.S., and its
neighboring countries and/or major trade partners)
j. Economic Factors (GDP, unemployment rates, top trade partners,
k. Political risk/political climate
l. Safety measures (what are the main threats in the country)
4. What would be an effective teaching method to train the expatriate (and family
if included)?
 Create a PowerPoint (or Prezi or Sway or other presentation) file:
o Ensure that each of the above items are addressed
o Ensure that the slides are easy to read
o Include pictures/graphics/charts as appropriate
o Include at least 5 academic-approved sources (CIA Factbook is 1
source) and cite source information used. This can be done on a slide
at the end titled Sources or References.
 The team can earn extra points by:
o Recording voice narrations on the PowerPoint file.
o Audio recording the presentation (video is optional) in Blackboard
Collaborate. If you choose this option, please contact me and I will
give you more information if needed on recording in Collaborate.
o If easier, the team can record the presentation using other software
as long as it can be uploaded/sent to me for viewing.
 The team’s work will be graded on:
o Thoughtfulness and thoroughness in addressing the items
o Conducting research and properly citing sources used
o Spelling & grammar of the content
o Team cohesiveness and collaboration
o Individual grades may differ than the team grade based on teammate
feedback (if team members report that a student did not contribute
then s/he will not earn points for this course requirement)cix
