What were the labor conditions, the impact on the environment, and so on. Is it possible to be a conscientious consumer?

Do you know where your food comes from? Do you know how it was produced? Most of us do not, and it’s often hard to find out even if you tried. Being conscientious about food consumption means making conscious choices when it comes to food: how and where was it produced, what were the labor conditions, the impact on the environment, and so on. Is it possible to be a conscientious consumer? Why or why not? If so, describe how you try to consume in that manner. If not, then provide details for a situation in which you would try to consume conscientiously.
