This week, we have learned about the Sociology of Culture. One of the major ways that sociologists have studied culture is by using participant observation. They go into settings and observe what is happening in order to better understand the cultural norms. For this assignment, you will do a participant observation study with an emphasis on better understanding terms used by Bourdieu.

Spend 20 minutes physically present in an environment where you do not have any cultural capital (see list for ideas). Write a short 2-3 page paper analyzing your experience using all of these specific terms from Bourdieu: field, embodied cultural capital, objectified cultural capital, institutionalized cultural capital, habitus, and social reproduction.

In your paper, please explain:

Where you went (provide details, like an address or the name of a club)
What time and day you went and how long you remained at the location
Any meaningful interactions that you had with people at the location
A description of your experience using each of these terms: field, cultural capital (embodied, objectified, institutionalized), habitus, and social reproduction
Your description should include a definition of each of these terms, as used by Bourdieu.
