What the problem is, how widespread or serious it is, who it affects, and why it is important.

Hi, I hope this isn’t too much but it’s the instructions that came with the prompt. Thank you.

Suggested length is 5.5 – 7 pages, double-spaced, typed, MLA format. Hint: Essays longer than 7 pages are fine, but essays shorter than 5 pages are unlikely to receive a passing grade.

Opposing Viewpoint: Include at least one opposing viewpoint, this time woven into a paragraph instead of in a separate paragraph. The solution section of the paper is a great place for this!!

All sources must be appropriately paraphrased or quoted, including MLA in-text citation and a works cited page. Use Knightcite.com (Links to an external site.) to build your works cited page.

Tips

The Problem Section (most of the paper):

Define the nature of the problem: What the problem is, how widespread or serious it is, who it affects, and why it is important.
Describe what seems to be the main cause(s) of the problem – at least 2 – 3
Describe the larger or longer-term effects (consequences) of the problem – at least 2 – 3
The Solution Section (likely 2 paragraphs max): Describe one successful effort that is being made to address this social problem. This can be an organization, a program, a law, etc. at the local level or at a much larger scale that is successfully trying to address the social problem.

Describe this effort being made. How does it work? Who does it affect? Where? What evidence is there of success?
Why is this solution effective? Consider the flowchart you made — is this addressing a cause or an effect in an effort to solve the problem?
Opposing view — how might someone argue with you about this solution?
