In 2017, President Trump withdrew the United States from The Paris Climate Agreement. President Trump believes that this agreement is harmful to U.S. businesses and the economy. Other nations in the world decided to stay in the agreement. The Washington Times (6/5/2017)reported that President Obama committed $3 billion to the United Nations Green Climate Fund under the agreement. President Trump is quoted as saying: “America is $20 trillion in debt. And yet, under the Paris Accord, billions of dollars that ought to be invested right here in America will be sent to the very countries that have taken our factories and our jobs away from us.” Yet, many large companies want to stay in the Paris Climate Agreement. Given what you have learned in the final two chapters and based on your own research, discuss the implications of these decisions. What second-order principles are helpful in deciding our obligations toward people of other nations?
