For this assignment, you will review the case, determining training needs at” breads of the world”bakery and discuss the importance of conducting a needs analysis .
“Breads of the world ” is a bakery which started in 1981 in madison, Wisconsin. It was an immediate local success, producing different types of breads for many cultures and the world. As its reputation grew, the two owners received more and more requests to ship their breads around the country to friends and family members who shocked at the store.
Over the years, it has grown to a large production and mail order operation which constitutes 95% of its business. Now located in Madison and DuPere,Wisconsin, the company employs 42 people at its bakery production facility (Madison) and another 85 people (currently ) it is order fulfillment, shipping and back -office operations (DuPere).
B-O-W now shifts 18 varieties of bread to all states in the US and to Canada as well. Revenues aren’t excessive 20 million annually and operating profit is about 11% (EBITDA). Growth has been steady at 8:00 to 10% per year requiring the addition of more production capacity and more employees involved in order fulfillment and shipping.
Lately the customer service department has had increasingly number of complaints of wrong orders and late deliveries (beyond The promise dates). Since many of these orders are gifts, there is a real danger of losing customers due to poor performance. Negative online reviews has spiked in the last 4 months; shortly after 22 New order fulfillment and shipping employees were brought a board. Comments from dissatisfied customers and a customer satisfaction survey has confirmed that the two areas with the largest mistakes are in wrong merchandise being shipped in an error is shipping dates.
As the manager of training, the owners have tasked you and the manager of customer service to reduce the number of mistakes and approve customers rating immediately.
There is no”formal” training program for order fulfillment employees, although there is a detailed guide to follow that gives the proper procedure to follow. Typically, workers do not need to refer to the guide after they have gotten the hang of the process after about 2 weeks on the job. A similar”on the job” training has occurred for employees who ship out the products.
