provide answers to the following questions:
(1) What kind of information was the author drawing on in the article or chapter you looked at?
(e.g. archaeological material in a particular location, texts written in a particular language and
period, etc.); (2) What issues did the author (or authors) seek to explore? (3) What, in general,
were the findings and conclusions of the author (or authors)? (4) What further research or
analysis on this topic would you like to see in other words, what is missing from this authors
treatment, or what kinds of further questions do you have about this topic? How would you go
about answering these questions?
The essay should be 1500 to 2000 words (at 250 words a page, thats 6 to 8 type-written pages).
It is worth 25% of your grade. Please take the time to structure your essay, with an introduction
stating the aim of your essay and a conclusion. In preparing your essay, you will have to go
beyond the single source you have used for your book report, and do further research on your
goddess or on your goddess particular religious context. There should be a minimum of four
items academic books or journal articles (not internet sources!) that appear in the
bibliography of your essay and that you utilize in the writing of your essay. You may find these
sources in the bibliography already provided for your group, from the reading you have done for
your book report, or through library research (e.g. using CLUES to find relevant books or the
JSTOR database for journal articles).You may write in English or in French. Make
sure that your paper has a coherent structure, including an introduction (where you tell the reader
what your aim is in the paper) and a conclusion. Please proofread your paper carefully before
handing it in. You must use a proper method of footnotes, endnotes, or in-text notes for
acknowledging the sources of the ideas and information that you use. Any system is fine, as
long as you use it consistently and appropriately. If youre not sure what constitutes appropriate
footnoting/ citation, check with one of the instructors or TAs. Please bear in mind the VERY
IMPORTANT FACT that passing off other peoples words and ideas as your own is plagiarism,
which is an extremely serious academic offense and may result in your receiving a failing grade
in the course or expulsion from the University. All incidents of suspected plagiarism will be
reported to the Deans office
