What is the relationship between liberalism and utilitarianism as Mill and Rawls understand it?

A few DOs and DONTs (all of them applicable, of course, to essays that you write on other modules):

(i) Though history is relevant, dont share historical information for its own sake (e.g. dont tell me when Karl Marx was born unless you think that the exact date matters in which case explain why).

(ii) Try to get straight to the point. So dont start by simply repeating the question in more elaborate language or by telling me that John Stuart Mill is a famous liberal philosopher.

(iii) Make a plan and stick to it.

(iv) Try to think of your essay as a succession of paragraph-units in which each unit has an obvious logical connection with its predecessor and successor. Its usually the case that something has gone rather wrong if there isnt a paragraph break on every page.

(v) Remember that this is the culmination of a years work. So it would be odd if your bibliography didnt contain at least 8-10 sources.

(vi) As youre not paying for printing, double-space (the increased readability that results has a significant subconscious effect on markers).

(vii) Reference correctly, using EITHER the Harvard OR the Oxford system. Its silly to lose marks by not getting this right.
