Both Laila Lalamis The Moors Account (2014) and Martin Delanys Blake (1859-62) are historical fictions. Lalamis novel retells the Narvez expedition and the subsequent wanderings of the surviving members, all of which took place from 1528-1536, from Mustafas perspective. Delanys novel takes readers a little less than a decade back in time to the early 1850s to portray Henrys liberatory struggles in the US and Cuba and to grapple with the momentous issues facing the author as he composed his work.
