What is this essay about?: For the essay, you will be writing a persuasive and personal critical analysis about a topic from within one of 5 pre-selected research studies that we have explored in class, in the Week 7 Essay Project: Part 1, Discussion: Topic Selection, and in your textbook.

Here’s how this should go:
This is not an essay where you will be summarizing or explaining the study. Nor is this an essay to discuss whether you simply agree or disagree with the entire study.
By now, you should have already reviewed and now chosen from 1 of the 5 pre-selected studies, of which the results or an aspect of the study most interests you.

What is the aspect of your chosen study that really grabs you?
Utilize credible outside research, such as news articles, psychology studies, opinion articles, videos or social topics to help you develop your opinion.
There are many articles available on the internet that align contemporary issues (issues going on in the world now) to topics related to these 5 studies. They are great resources for you to develop a critical analysis.
In your own words, develop a strongly held opinion about this essay aspect, that you can back with legitimate evidence or argument. In your intro paragraph, describe this briefly to the reader.
Describe how you feel about this aspect and how it relates to the study.
the outcomes of the research study, how the research was designed and executed, elements of ethics or topics such as mistaken judgement, human behavior, obedience, prison reform, abuse of power, heuristics, ethics, morals, violating ones perceived moral judgements, etc.
Develop a thesis where you tell the reader exactly what and why you’re writing about this
Write a well written and creative critical analysis where you support your strongly held opinion about the aspect of the study. Take the reader on the journey where you describe your strongly held belief, how reading the study made you develop this opinion/viewpoint, and persuade the reader to see your viewpoint in detail.
I want to hear your perspective an important component of the study, not to hear a summary or discussion of the study itself. If the reader walks away from reading your essay knowing more about you and your viewpoint, then you’ve achieved the goal of the assignment.
For this journal essay, you will use your critical thinking skills to journal and demonstrate that you can identify elements of the study’s main topics, concepts, research methods and general research strategies in your chosen study. You will look to identify an element of the study that you would like to discuss your personal feelings of and critically analyze. You should be researching and providing at least 2 credible research sources that you utilized to support your journal essay. Much like a literature review, your critical analysis journal-essay should look to challenge your critical thinking abilities to explore how you feel about elements such as: the outcomes of the research study, how the research was designed and executed, elements of ethics or topics such as obedience, morals, violating ones perceived moral compass, prison reform, abuse of power, heuristics, ethics, mistaken judgement, frightening human behavior, etc. Your essay should be persuasive, convincing the reader that you have a logical point of view on an aspect of your chosen study.

Goals:

One of the key directions of this assignment is to avoid summary you are not writing a book report, but evaluating your own views and opinions of your chosen studys topics, concepts, argument & results.
Choose a narrow argument of a component/aspect of the study, not whether you simply agree or disagree with the study itself. Use critical thinking to provide your own argument about the studys argument and results. Your paper will develop a clear thesis about how you will critically analyze the study and explore your personal feelings and opinions the research study and the researchers.
Briefly communicate to the reader that you identify the argument that the study is making,
This could be the overall study results, or aspects of the research participants, discussion or results.
Your paper should demonstrate that you have a complete understanding of the research study: The research problem, the research question (hypothesis), the program (the cause), the outcomes (the effect), and the research studys design. This might include how you identify elements of the type of research strategies that were used in your chosen psychological study and how that interrelates to your argument.
Utilized topics, concepts and terms you have learned in the course and that apply to the study or your argument.
