1. In Ryan, Cooper & Bolick Chapter 8 the authors describe legal issues that relate to both teachers and
students. Which issues stood out to you and why? Teachers are considered mandated reporters if they
see evidence of child abuse. After reviewing the California Child Abuse & Neglect document in the
learning activities folder, what did you learn about the types of child abuse, reporting laws and
reporting processes?

2. The legal authority of teacher is based on the principle of in loco parentis meaning in place of
Parents. With this authority comes responsibility and educators must adhere to the highest ethical
standards. Review the NEA Code of Ethics and the CTC Rules of Conduct for Educators in the
learning activities folder. What insights did you gain from reviewing both documents about teachers
