Since some of my applications will be targeting the law majors (specifically 2 of them) I wanted to focus my personal statement on the qualities that are desirable in a person studying in that major. The second option lies in international politics.
From extracurriculars:
1) Musical School WAM of Warsaw
Ever since 5th grade I have been a participant in musical school. We would be meeting for 6 hours on both Saturday and Sunday for the dance, singing, and acting classes with professionals. All of the aforementioned would then be put to use to prepare a musical at the end of each academic year. As a young kid, I wasn’t yet aware of how beneficial this activity was to me. I was able to develop myself into a more confident and open person to the benefit of raising money for people in need. Every year after the performance was presented to the public the money raised from the tickets sold would go to the local chosen community center.
2)Community Service Club
During the activity’s hours, we would raise resources for the St. Agnes refugee center, the local institution our school was working closely with. Since I have already had an experience with volunteering work, I was glad to be able to continue contributing to the community I was newly exposed to since 11th grade. Some of the club’s most significant accomplishments would include the Christmas donation, where the members raised money by preparing a bake sale too, and later on, contributed to preparing small gifts in the forms of clothes and more. We would then personally deliver the goods to the center which made the entire process more self-impactful since the results in the form of refugee joy were tangible for all of the members of the club. The actions wouldn’t stop just there as the community service would last a whole year long and as I participated I would find myself enjoying the process more and more with every week passing by.
3)Eco club
Throughout the winter term I’ve been involve in the actions taken by the Eco club. At first, we’ve been discussing the ecological approaches being present in our school, all of which has led us to the creation of the further plan on how to prevent some of
the dangers to appear in LAS. What we’ve targeted as the main source of error has been the use of the plastic gloves while serving the food as well as the unsustainable nature of the snacks being sold in the dorm stores.
About the first aspect we’ve been unable to come up with the solution since the COVID times have been at their peeks, making the school more cautious about removing the gloves because of their role of the external protectors against the disease’s spread
in the environment. Hence why we’ve focused our attention on the dorm store snacks, for which we’ve prepared a survey where students were able to further select more ecologically friendly substitutes to their commonly known sweets. As well as being more
sustainable they also contained less preservatives in their ingredients, which would further benefit their health. As a result we’ve further presented our video during the Sunday dorm meeting, after which the survey has been sent out to the dorm’s chat.
Unfortunately, before we’ve started to act upon our set of responses we had to leave for the winter break, after which the club meetings were no longer available. However, that experience has greatly influenced my leadership skills as well as the
public speaking one. I’ve been able to fully express my opinions with the help of the club and it’s members. With the skilful guidance coming from our supervisor all of the members equally participated in the discussions and encountered the same problems
on the way to the conclusion. I’m glad for having been a part of that team and I hope to further participate in it for the good of the school’s approaches to the sustainable choices in it.
4)Wioska Bullerbyn Summer Volunteering
What has first caught my attention when chosing this specific community service place was the camp’s focus on the respect and subjectivity of the child’s autonomy for its participants. I’ve always been amazed by the Montessori type of approach towards
the youth, where they put a major emphasis on children taking up challenges according to their abilities, aspirations and creativity. They try, check, make mistakes, and learn by experiencing the world. What’s also worth noting is that Wioska Bullerbyn
is not a “mythical land” where the ethereal happiness exists, however, where children can experience the true feelings of the natural consequences of their actions. They will encounter dissatisfaction as a result of dispute or failure while having fun and
executing their own ideas. Bullerbyn endeavours to ensure that they can withstand it in safe settings while also feeling satisfied with the solution , therefore developing a sense of self-worth and
agency. All of the above-mentioned approaches to cognitive learning has been deeply admired by me for a long time, and helping out in
