What does this terminology mean, and how closely do you feel it applies to Iago, in the sense the word is used today?

In Othello by Shakespear, Iago has often been described as one of the first depictions (in fiction / drama) of what is referred to today as a psychopath. What does this terminology mean, and how closely do you feel it applies to Iago, in the sense the word is used today? In a broader sense, how does Shakespeare work to outline the mental states of his characters, and how does that resemble or differ from the ways we currently deal with (and speak about) psychological issues?

All essays should be 7 9 pg. and include six to seven sources (not including the primary text itself).
