NINR is defined as the National Institute of Nursing research. During my virtual field trip, I viewed the NINR (National Institute of Nursing Research as a research tool that is funded by the United States Federal government that intends to ensure clinical evidence-based practices by improving individual and community.

The University of Maine Fort Kent defined Evidence-based practice as an approach to health care that utilizes the most current research available to improve the health and safety of patients while reducing overall cost and variation in health (What is Evidence-Based Practice? 2020). NINR is a part of the NIH (National Institute of Health) which focuses on five frameworks of care: health promotion, disease prevention, health disparities, quality of care, and end-of-life care.

Evidence-based practice enables the nurse to effectively provide high-quality care proficiently and at an affordable cost: therefore, improving patient outcomes and satisfaction. The University of Maine Fort and Kent explained that Evidence-based practice gives nurses the tools they need to become agents of improved health care outcomes.

In conclusion, I view the NINR strategic plan and mission as a clinical research tool that supports evidence-based practices to ensure and improve the quality of life for the patient. According to the NINR (2020) NINR, a strategic plan focuses on advancing science, improving lives, providing and encouraging health needs and wellness, health management, providing training for nurse management and leadership, innovation, prevention, and health promotion supported and proven by pragmatic and clinical based practice and research (National Institute of Nursing Research, 2020).

I am a student in nursing theory in pursuit of my DNP with a concentration in psychiatric mental health.

Today I will discuss how the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) mission and evolving strategic plan will guide my nursing practice and development as an APN. The purpose of this organization is to aide in identifying and solving pressing health challenges (NINR, 2022).

Multiple factors are considered in the strategic plan including health equity, social determinants of health, prevention of health complications, promotion of health and well-being, various models of care that may be implemented to assist in optimizing delivery of healthcare, and both population and community health (NINR, 2022).

As a developing advanced practice nurse, this organizations mission can provide me with guidance in what practices can aide in optimizing health in the population of patients I will serve. The strategic plan that is underway at the NINR addresses many areas of health promotion and disease prevention that should be considered when providing care. From mindfulness about the diverse population of patients that will be encountered to the various factors that will influence each patients health and well-being, the NINR strategic plan can provide evidence-based practices that will address these factors. As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, the NINR will provide critical knowledge into the many areas that can impact a patients mental health and stability. As nursing education emphasizes, health and well-being are impacted by more than meets the eye and each factor must be considered to increase the patient experience and provide care that addresses a patients specific needs. Remaining current on evidence-based practice and research that can impact health and wellness will allow me to be continually to grow as an APN and provide the best care I can within my capabilities. In addition, it will allow me to develop in the areas I lack knowledge and skill to improve my ability to provide thorough, patient-centered care.
