What do you consider the most significant similarities and differences between the books? When comparing and contrasting, do not simply consider the content of the books. Think, too, of the authors, the time of publication, the type of publication, etc. (keeping in mind that some of these may or may not apply to every book).

Instructions: For your term paper you are to select as your focus one of the following groups of readings. In a five- to six-page essay you should address the questions below. You should not repeat what you may have written in the reaction papers you submitted over the course of the semester. The questions here are different and your responses should be the result of new thought and reflection on your part. You can use the textbook and your lecture notes to provide historical context. You should not be doing any additional outside research.

Group 1:

Roth, The Wandering Jews

Kaplan, Between Dignity and Despair

Group 2:

Browning, Ordinary Men

Lower, The Ravine

Group 3:

Levi, Survival in Auschwitz

Kluger, Still Alive

Questions:

What do you consider the most significant similarities and differences between the books? When comparing and contrasting, do not simply consider the content of the books. Think, too, of the authors, the time of publication, the type of publication, etc. (keeping in mind that some of these may or may not apply to every book).

How are the differences significant for the particular story they were trying to tell?

How do they both contribute to a better understanding of the Holocaust?

Requirements:

Your essay should be no more than six pages and no less than five.

You should use 12-point Times New Roman font and one-inch margins.

Direct quotes must be in quotation marks. With quotes you may use parenthetical citations. For example: This is what it said. (Roth, 25) Next sentence.

Quality of the writing and care in presentation are as important as the content of the paper.
